In 2011 CEQUIN started the Kickstart Equality to nurture girl’s leadership through the power of football. Starting with a handful of girls in Jamia Nagar Delhi, today over 2.5 lakh girls have been a part of the programme, with it expanding to under-resourced communities in Delhi NCR, and rural areas of Haryana and Rajasthan with over 60 trained women football coaches from CEQUIN. The programme is based on role modelling, where women coaches and older players inspire girls to step out and claim public spaces through football. Many of our girls come from under-resourced communities, where there are still notions that sports is not for girls, widespread harassment, they can’t afford the opportunities to play, can’t buy football studs or equipment. Then – what does it take to get that girl from that small backyard and park to the stadium as a player? What if you could make a difference to her journey?
