CEQUIN launched its new project 'Leadership and Empowerment of Women and Girls in Mewat' amidst much fanfare on 14th October, 2013, at Sakras Village, Firozpur Jhirka, Mewat District, Haryana. A health camp and cultural event was organised on the occasion. The event saw participation of about 3000 people. The Chief Guests at the occasion were Shri Deepender Hooda MP Rohtak, and Smt Geeta Bhukkal, Social Welfare, Education and Women and Child Welfare Minister, Haryana Govt. was the guest of honour. Chairperson of CEQUIN Smt. Sara Pilot said on the occasion, "our objective is to work with women and girls from marginalised sections, to make them agents of development and progress within their communities." Shri Hooda commended CEQUIN for reaching out to the poorest sections and working in a collaborative manner with the state agencies and other stakeholders for the development of Mewat. Smt. Bhukkal said, "I am happy that CEQUIN has decided to work in Mewat. There is a critical need to work on education and health for women." Mewat is the most backward district of Haryana. Reproductive health, education and livelihoods are critical issues for women in this area. CEQUIN will be working in close partnership with the Haryana State Government, National Mission for the Empowerment of Women (NMEW), Government of India and GMR group for the empowerment of women and girls in the Mewat region.
